This publication aims to contribute to a critical debate about the process of biodiversity conservation in the State of Rio de Janeiro. The state, in the Brazilian context, not only has important remnants of the Atlantic Forest of global importance, but also represents one of the main centers of economic development of the country. In this sense, the state linked investments grow and distinct interests and achievements, mainly involving the oil industry, the construction and shipbuilding, to name a few examples.
