Used to think that the bison are almost extinct even in the lush grasslands of North America there would imagine ever to meet them ... on the French Riviera! And it is not killed and stuffed animals or heads grown in some skimpy bioparco fenced. The bison of the Biological Reserve of Monts d'Azur live free, just 1 hour from the Mediterranean coast, along with many other animals.
Bison, horses, deer, eagles, deer and wolves roam freely in the wild, in an environment that does not remember really a zoo: 700 acres of woods, meadows and hills that were once a hunting reserve and today are one beautiful park to discover, nimes perhaps aboard a horse-drawn carriage that is very much the old west.
The Parc des Monts d'Azur is located in the Municipality of Thorenc, in the Maritime Alps, 40 minutes from Grasse. Inside you can also stay overnight in the rooms of the castle or in stilt houses.
