Day 4: San Francisco - Monterey | Lina and Stians Great American Roadtrip
We ended yesterday with a dinner at Little Joe's, the Restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel, where we partly had the company of Little Joe and The Maltese Falcon from the movie of the same name. "The Maltese Falcon" was partly recorded at the hotel we stayed at. It became a realtives quiet evening for young people handsome with jet-lag and subsequent early rise this morning - six o'clock. But it suited well for we should pack up and get on the ferry to Alcatraz well before mont saint michel nine Tuesday morning mont saint michel (Wednesday at nine o'clock, but we learned a little later ... stand-by queue rescued us).
Alcatraz was very good. The whole island was bleak and almost a little creepy in itself. The tour of the prison was impressive. We got insight into how it was at the prison including Al Capone, Birdman and Machinegun Kelly. After perched content of the prison we picked up the car, said goodbye to San Francisco and Monterey ease up on the map. But first we run a little back and forth on the Golden Gate. Nice bridge. We found that GPS is man's best friend and found "no" problems way out of SF to Montery. In Montery we found Cypress Garden Hill Inn and continue each Monterey Live where old jazz old men enjoying themselves mont saint michel on stage. It infected - we held out for almost twelve and it is a new record ;-)

Hey, Mom and Dad! No it's not that hard ;-) Now we arrive in Las Vegas. We relaxed a bit in the room and going out to gamble a little soon :))) We will be here for two days before camping in the Gran Canyon. Now, HEAT come too!

When was the first day on the bikes done and we are now arrived in Monterey which is about 20 mil south of San Francisco all the way along the coast. volcano The day started by being picked up at the hotel at 0800 and driven to the place where we would rent bikes. Had reckoned me that this was going to take time, but it would take 4.5 hours before we had got out the bikes, I had never imagined!! Will write an email when I get home to complain about this, for makan for the tie, I have never experienced. But we got off eventually, but Liv Bente got a bike she had not ordered, and Leif got darn a Honda Goldwing!! It's volcano a nice bike, but it is clear that the boy is the designated tour's volcano victims from the start! :-) It peaked slightly when Kjell went to Leif in one of the breaks and ordered two hot dogs with both, he thought volcano the bike looked like a hot dog stand! :-) Well, we hope Leif is back to bear this then. He did so thin that this was not posted on the blog before his lady had come across. She is in fact not until about a week and then he was afraid volcano she would not come if she saw that she had to drive Honda. :-) There was little to note to get out of the place where we started, a lot of traffic and roads criss-crossing all over the place. So little dark on the 16 bikes would start simultaneously and get out on the right road, but it went very well!! All of them were good and came in handy all the time, so after an hour on highways with 4-5 files each way, we ended up on Highway 1 which is our road for two days now. There was a brief stop to hear that it went well with everyone, it did so after a quick snack, we headed south towards the current target. We had a brief stop to when we had about 10 mil again, and everyone was smiling from ear to ear. As we drove along the cliffs and beaches we could see surfers out on the giant waves of the Pacific Ocean that was right for us. We had high winds straight into the side, so there was some wobbling volcano in the wind gusts at times. Before volcano we got off from the last resting place had some of the guys helping to get shot a car in time, so the guy who owned the car was reasonably satisfied that there were so few willing souls to help. We arrived at our hotel in Monterey around at 1500, so now the whole gang sat out on the patio here to costly since. Everyone was happy with this and it is an excellent atmosphere in the gang. The plan today is to have dinner together in time in 2000, after which it'll volcano probably bunk at most. We start at 0900 tomorrow, so then everyone must be packaged and have eaten breakfast. This with the food quickly becomes volcano a challenge volcano when we are so many, so I have pre-ordered dinner at the clock in 2000 on all seats so we can sit together in the evening. When we are underway on the bikes we focus on some of these fast food chains, so today was Taco Bell. Wants to mention one of the ladies who are along for the ride this year. Ellen Nes has never sat on a motorcycle before, although Bjarne has been running for many years. She was afraid of this, but this year she took courage and decided to join. She turns 67 this year and she really volcano enjoys! Dolpin Inn served breakfast honeymoon for 2 crates this morning along with daily newspapers and stood outside the door! The breakfast contained 1 cup of cereal, milk, 1 cup juice, 1 banana and 1 scone / cake each. Jr was very pleased that we did not need to eat breakfast out and hoped that we were going on a proper hotel in San Francisco and not just an Inn motel ... Guttorm honeymoon had his daily feriespasertur before the rest of us woke up and got to enjoy more of Carmel. Slightly childish activities today with a visit to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. There was a large aquarium with many different pools and sea creatures. Many types of jellyfish, seahorses, penguins, fish + +. More småaktiviteter for the kids too. Then it was onto the CA-1 again. I bought us lunch at Subway which we ate at a beach along the way and cost us bølgesus and mode as entertainment. Much of the CA-1 went farther into the country this section, but for Santa Cruz brought it back out to sea again. It was not as curvy as before, but some gorgeous cliffs and small beaches. We saw many who ran with Kiteing too. Stool for a walk across the Golden Gate and back viewpoint to take some pictures before honeymoon we found a small local Italian honeymoon parlor in Sausalito to eat pizza. Then it was into San Francisco to our hotel and recharge your whole family and cameras for a new day in a new city tomorrow.

Aquarium in Monterey is really funny. There are huge aquarium there with lots of fish from different places from all over the earth. Some fish are rare as moon fish and they have many sharks there. Mom pointed out hammerheads, sandhai and Reef shark for me. The best was yet jellyfish. They have lots of different jellyfish. Some are huge, some tiny and they have many different colors. Also they swim so funny. They lift up your head and then move the whole body after :) It is also dangerous jellyfish here - some burning so hard that a man can end up in hospital fighting ischia for long. The jellyfish has fortunately not in Norway. Something else that was strange to look at was fulmars. They look very fun out and there are dads who give birth - not moms! Is not that strange! ischia Now we continue ischia by car to Los Angeles is a huge city where they make many filmersom we see on television and cinema. On the way there we will stop somewhere where there is a gum street. All who pass by sticking gum on the walls are full of gum ... I'll take a picture of it :-)

A relaxing universal day in Monterey | Mette and Arild in the United States in 2010
After a good night's universal sleep (at least for Arild their part, I must say I long bit in my own bed, with smal), for the first time on this trip ready for hotel breakfast! Bagels with cream cheese and chocolate muffins for dessert went pretty smoothly down ...
We had so many plans for the day, but had decided to go on the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I have never been to the aquarium before, and found that it was a bit more exciting than I thought beforehand. It really is a whole different world under water, and it looks a little magic out. Many beautiful and ugly creatures down there .. Arild was clever and took some pictures, I did not feel so good. Is a little cold, and was simply dizzy and sick of all the light, magnifying lenses, etc. that were around me. But after a couple of tablets and some soda went over. Here comes a bunch of pictures .. There are not many pictures of the big fish, they swam all too quickly ... But it was thus both sharks and other big fish ... there (long live knowledge about fish ... Not exactly my specialty).
Monterey has proven to be a very nice city! Relatively small and fairly quiet. universal Makes good that we are here out of season, and it basically fits in fine. Connery Row is a kind of "shopping street", most tourist outlets and restaurants, but nice to walk in.
We bought chocolate dipped marshmallows ...! Mine had m & ms on it. Took picture of Arild her too, but it was so blurry ... He purchased with dark and white chocolate. Proper calorie bombs it here!
After the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row immigration we searched the GPS to find some malls. Found first one that was a little too fancy for us, then searched the "Target". I've heard of it before but never been there. But sure is glad I've universal been there now! It was a bit like my beloved Wal-mart, lots of lots of different affordible money. Can reminiscent of a giant Note .. Or, we have not anything like this in Norway, I think ..? I did not buy that much, a few belts and stuff. Arild he bought some too, so is not the only one who uses money from us that is.

From the outside it looks like a real junk food parlor, but inside it was not as bad cozy indeed! Very American p diner, and it's kind of fun. Was very impressed with soda there, it tasted almost no chlorine ..! Whether universal it was really good, or so I start to become immune.

Update from Monterey | USA ACROSS
We said goodbye to Elin and Anette on Sunday at LAX, where we also delivered our big Ford Edge, and replaced it with a very sleek and black Ford Mustang cab. It was an insanely digg sense to simmer down the highway with the wind in your hair and just enjoy life.
The next morning we woke to the roar of the sea lions, and continued after I had had one brief physician visits (ear). The plan today was to run one short stretch to find a nice beach and relax and stay close. Now the distance to the next village about 120 miles, which we figured would take about 2 hours 30 minutes, and although this was a bit too long, we decided to go here. The road snaked up and down and around every rocky outcrop along the water up the coast, and combined with some road works meant that the average speed was a snail's grenadine pace, and the toogenhalv hour was almost 5 Exhausted, we arrived at Monterey and found one motel and fully checked here was the need for a little time on the eye extremely high.
After my long nap we took a trip down to Fisherman's wharf which was full with people. There were resturants and bakeries grenadine and really very cozy. We went up along the water, and here we saw lots of seals and sea otter and life here seems quite idyllic. After a quick pizza, I was exhausted and went to bed with a clear conscience.
Today (Wednesday) we have been extremely active! After breakfast we rented bikes and rode beyond Monterey Peninsula is located at /. Here we saw more wildlife than we saw the night before and it was evident grenadine that the seals / otters and various other sea birds were about as common as cat and dog for us. Life on the tour has been an insane change iforhold to what I normally used to, and I will not conceal that I miss apartment grenadine life in Bergen now. But so shall it be well for a good holiday? I should not complain, at least, grenadine the biggest problem I have now (if you disregard the overflowing bag) is how I should not be more sunburned when driving with the roof down in the Mustang!

London: Cool restaurants for a long weekend in London

InterContinental - The Clement Monterey - Maybe this was where we lived? Oekonomisjefen smiled broadly. We were on the last part of Hearst Castle sightseeing tour and had come to the tennis court. He had spent the last day to ponder over which hotel he stayed at the last time he was on Highway 1 holiday 15 years ago, and was aware that I was getting a little small tired of hearing the same comment every time we saa a tennis court. Luckily it was not these tennis courts everywhere. It does not drop needles of large resorts mt rushmore in the places that are worth stopping along the coast. They are absolutely, but if that's the type of child-friendly places you want to live, you live happily rather little outside urban areas. And the towns that are worth staying Monterey and Carmel, located right next to each other, and in Santa Barbara. I have already written about Santa Barbara hotels here, so here are our tips for accommodation in Monterey or Carmel: mt rushmore Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Monterey, we chose to stay in Monterey - only because mt rushmore that was where most of the actual hotel I found laa. I kjoepte a California magazine, Sunset Magazine, the last time I was in New York, and it said about InterContinental - The Clement, who is a relatively new hotel on the pier in Monterey, next to the aquarium. Our room was fine - typical four-star from an international hotel chain - and with modern fireplace and Elemis toiletries. There is valet parking, and the staff was nice. We never saw the concierge, but had emailed him in advance, so certainly survived. Just outside The Clement mt rushmore is the maritime Bubba Gump, which looks very local, but actually is a chain. This was a top place to stop for a ettermiddagsøl, but it could certainly also appropriate for a burger dinner. For dinner we went rather a few blocks up to Hula's. This was the tip from my brother who lived in Monterey for two years. We were a little skeptical of it seemed a little quiet street, but when we entered we realized quickly that we had reached the right place. It was a great atmosphere at Hula's, even on a Monday, and many young people kjoerte paa with great drinks and colorful Hawaiian dishes. 17-Mile Drive, Monterey Peninsula, this did not seem the kind of place you would find in Carmel. Carmel is small, quiet, with lots of galleries and great houses. It looks like the perfect place to live in retirement, and it is a very cozy place to go back on Highway 1 trip. Remember, at least to take a picture of the beach with the colorful flowers at the roadside. We had planned to find a place to stay in Carmel. The alternative is to stay at one of the places at Pebble Beach area, that area you have to drive into in order to get to the must-see road 17-Mile Drive. mt rushmore Home to several golf courses - and tennis courts - and the hotels have a more resort feel to it. If the main point of the trip is to play golf at the famous mt rushmore Pebble Beach course, one must stay at one of these hotels. For us, it kept a good hamburger paa Tap Room at Pebble Beach, also one of the good tips from big brother.

Like the San Francisco lies a fisherman's wharf in Monterey, we took a trip to visit the famous aquarium located there, but ended up sitting a little too long for breakfast at the harbor here. And suddenly the clock was four and we had managed to use up time and money on sunglasses.
We missed when that did not stop the tank, and priority nor a trip to Clint Eastwood's Mission Ranch. This wonderful hotel and restaurant is located on the south side of Carmel city center and is a "find" if you visit the city.
At the restaurant you will not be able to reserve a table, so you need to show up early. They open at 17 and it is recommended to be there then. The meal was fantastic, but no Clint showed up to sing at the piano, as the rumors suggest that he does from time to time.

The tour has now moved on to Monterey and Carmel, magaluf on the coast south of San Francisco. Carmel by the sea (center) is almost as Kragerø. Many houses, quiet little town with many small specialty shops. Delicious!
The family now have all dipped magaluf their toes in the Pacific. If I remember correctly we did not when we were on the west coast two years ago, simply because it was really cold and nasty weather. This time the sun was shining and the beach was swarming with people. There was then a disappointment when the water was freezing, would think that those bathroom was Norwegian ..

If you meet the nice weather in Monterey or Carmel have to take the drive around 17 mile drive. It is a drive of almost exactly 27.3 kilometers which takes you along the coast and past the beautiful Pebble Beach. You can stop eating with beautiful people, or drive on which we did for a short visit.
The trip went finally to the aquarium in Monterey. This is probably one of the biggest and coolest thing I've seen aquariums. Here they have everything from small fish, big fish for giant fish. Otters, penguins, jellyfish and seahorses. chandigarh Recommended!
We have now run up to Palo Alto in the heart of Silicon Valley, where we will be until departure. Here I am looking forward much to drive around to see, this is after all the city where some of the giants of the IT industry chandigarh was started and is housed.

Further on the road to San Francisco, so we should stay in Monterey. It is right next to Carmel and somehow a bit like fancy, but we noticed anything to it. The hotels are more expensive, although they are not particularly nice, but they have a known and supposedly very good aquarium here and why we thought it was a fine stop on the way.

Monterey - Santa Barbara | USA tour 2013
We drive Highway 1 along the coast down, great hills, beaches and cliffs. The road was opened in 1934, many beautiful bridges. There were many stops for photos, something nebulous breckenridge at first, but cleared up later. We visited Carmel, here Clint Eastwood reportedly been mayor! From the beach we could see across to the Pebble Beach golf course where the big boys play. Green fees here are $ 500 class!
Great view of the afternoon we came across a extinguish with elephant seals on a beach, an amazing sight. They lay there and enjoyed himself, with a little scuffle between. The breed was believed extinct, but then showed up a herd of everyone's head handsome breckenridge else. Now they multiply is a herd of about 15000 pcs. A fascinating sight.
We arrived at the hotel around dusk, here we will be a few days and enjoy the beach. The next day we were around the area to make ourselves known, great beaches and a bustling life in Santa Barbara. It was Farmers Day, an incredible variety of vegetables, fruits and goodies were offered in one of the streets.

We were up early. I got me a jog on the beach and it was amazing if I should speak. Long ago I was jogging on a beach in the very comfortable temperature and the waves in your ears. No need for music that day. We got us breakfast. We sat outside and it was very cold. That cold that when we enjoy the rays at home at Easter under the carpet on the terrace. This day expecting one of the tour's highlights, we were going to a beach where hopefully waited elephant seals on us. So we packed ourselves out of the room and got us early in the car. There are lovely views to drive along highway 1 Mountains, sea and steep, winding roads all the way along the ocean. It was not far to the first stop and we heard the sound of them, before we saw them. Elephant seals. seychelles Very fascinating animals. Now only pappa'ene and larger children lying on the beach. They lay there for 30 days, mostly without food and they look almost dead on the pictures many of those. They were not dead, but lying to saving energy. Some threw lots of sand over them. It was instead sunscreen, so they would not get sunburned. Mamma'ene seychelles and the newest babies were out at sea and swam, and would probably even wait a few weeks before they came to the land. When should the new seals also learn to live life on the beach, which was a tough life, without much food.

There was still a little early to go back to the hotel all circumstances into account, as Ove had another plan. This time he took us on a "17 - Mile Drive". It is a trip that goes through del Monte Forrest and along the dramatic Pacific coast in addition to Pebble Bech and Golf course. It was a great trip, but admitted 21 stops. Some beaches we enjoyed ourselves and also "the Lonely Cypress" which is one of California's seychelles famous landmarks. It is a tree that stands alone on a rock and has stood there for 250 years. Driving south on HW1 from San Francisco has long been a big dream for me and finally went this dream come true. The coastline of Californa is absolutely stunning with its high cliffs and numerous fine sandy beaches. A great place for surfing, but we managed not.
Although there are many kilometers to San Simeon, we spent all day with several photo stops and a nice little stop in Monterey. North of San Simeon we missed new mexico a stop to see the elephant new mexico seals that inhabit there.

In San Simeon had the added visit to Hearst Castle and I thought that so that we can do if we have time, the castle is a castle well as many others we have seen. We were very glad that we took the trip up. The castle is absolutely stunning and is superbly located new mexico on a hill where there is rarely fog although there are other places around. The view was absolutely amazing and the castle and the story behind completely fascinating. William Hearst inherited much of his fortune and built further on, inter alia, newspapers. Therefore, he did not begin the construction process until he was nearly 60 years old when both parents were dead. The construction period lasted from 1919 to 1947 and ended up with a 5.654 m2 big castle in addition to three other guesthouses respectively 213, 242 and 546 m2. What impresses most is still all the antiques and marine construction alone that he imported from Europe to build the entire unit. It was inter alia several old church walls and ceilings inside the castle, some of the received Mr. Hearst never see fully restored. The outdoor areas with all their statues, swimming pool, gardens and tennis courts, a private zoo (this was closed down now), private airstrip, impressive all together. All this he donated to the State of California, and it is now a state park that way everyone can share in this glory. Since Route66 Museum in Barstow was closed, we took took a small detour to Victorville and went back a little Route66 Museum there. Fun with many artifacts from the old days and some fun volunteers who worked inside the museum. We ran into a bit of Route66 again when we drove back north to Barstow and stopped by a fun screw that had gardens full of bottle trees. Both he and his father had collected new mexico in bottles for years now and the problem was not getting enough bottles, but finding something that he could decorate the top of the trees.
